Dear bewildered Syed; what, then, about the Afghans?Reader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Lenn (Denmark), Jul 4, 2007 at 17:00 I think you have a good heart, but you believe a lie, perhaps the greates lie in the history of mankind: islam. I am so sorry for you that you have thus closed your heart to the one and only God. 'Allah' is one of many pagan gods (no. 600 something) and it was decided to choose just one god to establish Islam as a religion. Allah is the moon god. If islam provides for a simple (good??) life, why is it then that throughout the islamic world, women are being abused, suppressed, killed, forced to bear children all their life, forced to hide behind ugly tent-like coats and veils, being circumcised, etc.? I believe that the Afghan men are living rather simple lives, at least compared to us Westerners, and yet they slaughter each other and others. How come, if a simple life provides for calm and peace? Why don't you see similar atrocities all over the Jewish and Christian world? Or the buddhist world? You need to take a good look at the Bible and compare it with the teachings of the person Muhammad, who you seem to believe was a peace-creator. Why does his deeds not reflect this? Even 1400 yrs after his death? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
