Long Live the QueenReader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Peter, Scotland (United Kingdom), Jun 26, 2007 at 16:09 Mr Pipes, I for one hope your opinion is wrong and the knighthood was given with full consideration of its implications. I believe the Queen has taken the lead role in this country we call Great Britain and others must now follow. We now need the mainstream politicians to stand up and say free speech is a fundamental part of our way of life, and if you are offended by something as simple as an author writing a book, then tough, as you have just shown you have no tolerance or respect and you deserve no respect back. I hope this is a starting point for our great country and for the people to stand up and be counted and to preserve our cherished way of life. Long Live the Queen.
