It's great that Rushdie is in the clear!Reader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Henrik Ræder Clausen (Denmark), Jun 27, 2007 at 10:15 While it's personally dangerous, I am very grateful that Salman Rushdie has chosen to defy the Islamist threats and live in the clear again. At great personal risk, he challenges the scaryness of the Islamists and sets an example for others that it is possible to stand up openly against them. The more people do this, the braver everyone else will be. Yes. this is a battle of personal risks. It is a time where brave persons need to stand up and show that they are not afraid. And Rushdie sets a very fine example. I'm fine with the British government not having even considered Islamists reactions. They're pretty predictable anyway, and not really worth counting on in advance. On the other hand, we need to take suitable protective measures every time the 'insulted' Muslims make trouble again. Their stupid victimization just doesn't impress the way it used to. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
