Salman Rushdie and British backbone: A Reply to MarciReader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Jaisingh Thakur (India), Jul 17, 2007 at 06:24 Dear Marci, I personally believe in each and every word that you have to say on the centuries' old myths propagated by human beings in different parts of the world for utterly selfish reasons. The questions that confront us starkly in the face at present, however are these: " Does anybody have the right to kiil a person who does not believe in those myths which are very dear to his heart? " Must we, living as we do in the 21st century, be told to kill our fellow humans simply because their belief-systems differ from ours? And if someone dare suggest us such an outrage, do we have the right to hold such a criminal in utmost contempt ? The Middle Eastern "eschatological madness " in our day has degenerated into megalomania where some people have started believing that only theirs happens to be the most perfect way of living and that the rest of the humanity must either follow suit or be subject to the sword ( I mean bombings, and beheadings!) Let us tolerate this nonsense no more and consign these elements together with their evil philosophy to the dust bin of history.
