Quite the contrary...Reader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by donvan (United States), Jul 23, 2007 at 09:47 Muhammed was an actual person, so far as we can tell anyway. It was his teachings and ideology that, along with other interlopers, produced the canon, or composite of writings, laws and dogma that we now refer to as "Islam". Only Muhammed and his acts are considered by his followers as worthy of immulation. "Muhammedism" is the best, and in fact, only term that can refer to all Muslims, everywhere, Whether Sunni,Shiite,Sufi, whatever, they all see Muhammed as the "Prophet" and founder. Only by a critical examination of the teachings of Muhammed can we non Muhammedians (infidels) understand the acts of so called "Muslims" who see him as "Perfect". The koran. hadiths, Shria, are derived from Muhammed's teachings and are occult ( may have hidden messages). Islamics, of course, reject this because Muhammed was far from the "Perfect" man. He was deceptive, justified murder, advocated war, accepted slavery, etc, etc, etc,. "Muhammedans" is the term used historically to refer to all "Moslems".
