I imagine this is what John LeCarre was TRYING to say...Reader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Jeremy (United States), Jun 26, 2007 at 15:11 before they got in that endless row. You have to take Islamists seriously. Of course Salman Rushdie should be defended, but defended from what? One wishes that the soon to be Sir Salman would re-read David Cornwell's letters to the Guardian with actual deep concern in mind.
