To Syed: Belief in the hereafter is as good as believing in a world inside mirrors.Reader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Plato (United Arab Emirates), Jul 11, 2007 at 05:34 Syed Rafey, you wrote: "---Dear Plato, do you see any concept of punishment/hell in following situations (In following 3 examples, I used Chirstian and New York to amplify statements for clarity else Chirstian could be replaced with Human or Muslim) : A) A Christian Man killed Chirstian Man and lived ever after in peace in New York. B) A Christian Man looted Chirstian Man and lived ever after in peace in London. C) A Christian Man raped Chirstian Woman and lived ever after in peace in Paris. Is there anything that can stop first any Man from not commiting sin?---" Syed Rafey what you seem to be getting at is that if murderers/llooters/rapists manage to commit their crimes and live peacefully then the ends of justice would not have been served. Because you want justice to be done you invent an after life where they will be punished. That is just what it is, an invention of our minds to console ourselves that if justice cannot be done in this world it will be done in an imagined after life. The mind can certainly conjure up many things but a real physical hell and heaven to house people in their after life are creations of our minds to console ourselves that justice will be done if not here at least in the here after. You are welcome to belive in the here after. It is a great consolation. But it is as unreal as the world we see inside mirrors.
