Salman Rushdie and British backbone:a reply to Roosevelt's discipleReader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Jaisingh Thakur (India), Jul 15, 2007 at 09:59 Dear Sir, You begin your response by stating that "Islam is at war with the USA and UK". I may add that much before the ugly face of Islamic terrorism made itself manifest in the West and in the U.S.A. following the utterly condemnable 9/11 terrorist deed, India, with its Hindu-Buddhist traditions ingrained very depply in its psyche, had been continously facing this threat throughout its entire recorded history, notably since the infamous Mohammad Bin Qassem ,with the permission of the then caliph, invaded our country. Our encounter with Islamic terrorism dates back to at least a millennium. Speaking of more contemporary times, however, since 1989, Pakistan with the aid of its sinister ISI, has been sponsoring mass murders, rape arson.and several other crimes of which one would be ashamed to make a mention in any cilized forum. A complete discussion of Pakistan's complicity in promoting Islamic terrorism in India would fill up several volumes and would still be guilty of possessing the virtue of brevity. In any description of Islam's enemies, therefore, do not tend to overlook the Hindus and the peaceful Buddhists of the Indian sub-continent. The terrorists have singled us out (with Pakistan's open blessings) for this honour much before they turned their unholy gaze on you. The point is let us now work shoulder to shoulder to tackle this common threat to humanity with everyone contributing his mite to defeat our common foe. Its defeat is certain-the only concern is that the price to be paid for this victory is not too high.
