im the only one doing the reading hereReader comment on item: Still Asleep After Mumbai Submitted by bayezid (Bangladesh), Dec 28, 2008 at 06:36 no, maybe you did not read what i wrote. i said that islam has laws of war never ever employed in the past. sure your rome may have had laws. but none of them were altruistic in nature. those laws cared little for prisoners of war. and the prisoners of war certainly never escaped torture from the romans. in islam, you cannot torture prisoners at any cost. to do so would mean to displease GOD. im sure the glorious roman empire never recognized such laws. oh i remember now, they were pagans. heathens. im surprised how you have forgotten that romans were imperialists. they sought war on other people even when those other people did not want it. rome forced itself on people and in such conquests killed insurmountable amount of people. they believe in aggressive, unprovoked warfare. muslims are bound by law not to conduct aggressive warfare. only when hey are provoked. so much for roman laws of war. which prisoners benefitted from roman laws hmmm ? to our knowledge till date, the romans always mistreted their prisoners. and for your info, the christians waged war on muslims because of territory in jerusalem during crusades. what posed as a great christian conquest ended up as one of the most shameful events in history for the european christendom. history is witness to the countless prisoners released by mslims ater they devoured their armies. salah uddin al ayubi released hundreds and hundreds of christian soldiers simply because they surrendered. that way many christians stayed behind embracing islam. you did not know that? oh thats one of my favourite chapters. if you want to open that can of worms, just let me know. islam is based on quran and sunnah. if some muslims are acting out of these sources, their deeds can hardly be deemed as islamic. you are expected to have this simple understanding.
