Everyone wants to change the World...Reader comment on item: Still Asleep After Mumbai Submitted by Simple Truths from Australia (Australia), Jan 1, 2009 at 03:30 ...but no one wants to change themself. Leo Tolstoy I imagine that God or Allah (take your pick as to which one of the 4700 odd accepted religions in the world that God or Allah actually adhere) would be reasonably disappointed at the disrespect we show Him and each other. On an ongoing basis, Jews, Christians and Muslims alike (and plenty of other religions also), all over the World are killing each other in the name of religion. All conflicts revolve around gaining power (in the form of control or ethnic cleansing), Land and resources. Sugar coat it any way you like, this is the simple truth. Any persons who use religion or have a belief system and use it as a political tool for their personal agenda (Jews, Christians, Muslims and fruitarians alike) are self absorbed, hypocritical and blinded be their selfish desires. If there is divine justice, they will be punished, not rewarded for their behavour, both on Earth and in Purgatory / Hell or some similarly unaccomodating venue. Imagine if we could all believe in God or Allah but not religion. Instead of teaching our own personal, divisive, religious doctrines, if we could use Moral and Social equity type Belief systems in our schools, Churches, Mosques and Synagogues to replace religions. The focus would be on tolerance, equity and morality. sharing the simple pleasures of Family, History, Culture, sport and Cuisine. Or better still, keep all our religions with one Major overhaul - remove all divisive texts that promote intolerance of others or other religious beliefs Where I live In Australia, my children go to a school where there are students from numerous cultural and religious backgrounds, our kids don't care what religion their friend is. Imagine if the grown-ups could just act like children this once, and collectively change themselves to be a little less self-absorbed and a lot more tolerant I have spoken Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
