"Reciprocate" implies a give-and-take, some kind of balance. What he proposes is very asymmetric and of course he knows it. No concession there. Like saying "why not surrender now, in the long run we win anyway".
It was clever of Mohammed to build on the foundation of Judaism and Christianity, like erecting a mosque on the site of a church or synagogue. Had he created something totally new it would've been a much harder sell, and he might not have "profited" during his lifetime. Personally I think he was a fraud. I'd be hoping for God to send down a revision that would supplant the Koran and brand its adherents as outdated and inferior, just as Islam has branded the earlier religions. But unfortunately Islam is so hidebound that even a genuine Prophet wouldn't be recognized as such.
