No doubt Quran mentions Jihad, holy war, or, holy battle. We, moderate muslims, address holy war, or, holy battle, when non-muslims are the first to trigger off war against us then we begin to defend and such is called holy war or holy battle. Take note the word, holy, is mentioned as an adjective and it describes what the war or battle. The so-called, war, or battle, as mentioned has to be considered as holy. Can a person calls a muslim just slaughters non-muslims without a cause as holy? is it not to be considered as holy instead it is evil. When non-muslims start to fight against mosque, we, muslims, must defend or else our holy mosque will be destroyed by non-muslims and such a war is called holy in the sense that we, muslims, protect our mosque. Or in other words, there is a good purpose for that war since the war is necessary so as for muslims to protect the mosques to prevent non-muslims to destroy them. However, muslim extremists have abused the war in which they killed non-muslims without a cause. Non-muslims do not fight with them first and yet they start the war first. The war in the past as mentioned in Quran is the war that between non-muslims and muslims in which non-muslims fight with muslims due to they hate the teaching of Quran and that muslims would disappear from this world if they didn't fight back as a result of the attack from non-muslims. The war during that period is considered to be holy or the so-called holy war or holy battle since there is a good purpose of the war. At that time if muslims remained silent not to fight back when non-muslims begin the war with us, muslims, muslim religion would vanish in this world due to the messy killings from non-muslims and the destructions of mosques that non-muslims would bring about. However, the wars that we are talking about are entirely different from what is mentioned in the Quran:
a) the war now among non-muslims is not to be considered as holy war or holy battle or jihad since muslim extremists kill non-muslims without a cause.
b) Non-muslims do not attack muslim extremists and yet muslim extremists just attack them and this is not called holy war or holy battle.
c) Non-muslims do not attack muslim extremists' mosques and yet muslim extremists start to attack non-muslims and this is not to be considered as holy war or holy battle.
The following are the proves that non-muslims were the first that fought with muslims and that is why Muhammad and his followers fought back (Note: the war at that time is to be considered since muslims defended from the attacks of non-muslims. If muslims did not defend from the attacks of non-muslims at that time, muslim religion would vanish since all non-muslims might have slaughter all muslims and to destroy all muslims' mosques):
Quran 2:191, "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah is worse than killing. And fight not with them at Al-Masjid-Al-Haram (the sanctuary at Makkah), unless they (first) fight you there. But if they attack you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelie".
Quran 9;13, "Will you not fight a people who have violated their oaths (pagans of Makkah), and intended to expel the Messenger while they did attack you first? Do you fear them? Allah has more right that you should fear Him if you are believers."
As muslim extremists start to fight with non-muslims without a cause, this war is not to be considered to be holy since the war has turned up to be bad instead of holy as a result of killing without a cause to non-muslims.
QURAN DOES NOT FULLY SUPPORT FIGHTING SINCE IT DOES ADDRESS THIS WAR TO BE EVIL DEEDS AND YET THEY HAD NO CHOICE TO DEFEND SINCE NON-MUSLIMS WERE THE FIRST STARTED THE WAR AGAINST THEM
Quran 7:53, "Await they just for the final fullfilment of the event? On the Day the event is finally fulfilled (i.e. the Day of Resurrection), those who neglected it before will say: "Verily, the Messengers of our Lord did come with the truth, now are there any intercessors for us that they might intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back (to the first life of the world) so that WE MIGHT DO (GOOD) DEEDS OTHER THAN THOSE (EVIL) DEEDS WHICH WE USED TO DO?" Verily, they have lost their ownselves (i.e. destroyed themselves) and that which they used to fabricate (invoking and worshipping others besides Allah) has gone away from them. "
Quan 35:37, "Therein they will cry: "Our Lord! Bring us out, WE SHALL DO RIGHTEOUS GOOD DEEDS, NOT (THE EVIL DEEDS THAT WE USED TO DO." (Allah will reply): "Did We not give you lives long enough, so that whosoever would receive admonition could receive it? And the warner came to you. So taste you (the evil of your deeds). For the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) there is no helper."
Quran 37:39, "And YOU WILL BE REQUITED NOTHING EXCEPT WHAT YOU NEED TO DO (EVIL DEEDS, SINS, AND ALLAH'S DISOBEDIENCE WHICH YOU USED TO DO IN THIS WORLD) "
ALLAH COMMANDS THAT MUSLIMS TO DO GOOD DEEDS TO PARADISE BUT FORBIDS EVIL DEEDS SINCE IT LEADS TO HELL
They belied (the Verses of Allah - this Qur'an), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled (according to the kind of deeds: GOOD deeds will take their doers to PARADISE, and similarly EVIL deeds will take their doers to HELL).
WARNING AGAINST MUSLIM EXTREMISTS TO FIGHT WITH NON-MUSLIMS IF NON-MUSLIMS WERE NOT THE FIRST TO START THEIR WARS AGAINST THEM:
If muslim extremists are so obstinate to start their war with non-muslims, please kindly read carefully the instruction from Allah from Quran 4:90:
Quran 4:90, "...Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them). "
As the phrase, if they withdraw from you but fight you not, is mentioned in Quran 4:90 with the phrase, Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them), it implies that Allah commands all muslims not to fight with non-muslims if they withdraw fighting from you, muslim extremists.
You might use any verse from Quran to support your reasoning of fighting. However, Quran 4:90 is a warning from Allah to you to siop fighting when they withdraw to fight with you.
