Because Mohammed got his vision somewhere, he fought the meccans, if truly he is not violent by nature he wouldn't have fought. Jesus Christ was also persecuted and he never for once fought back nor encourage his followers to fight, hence all his followers don't fight. But Allah gave mohammed the go ahead to fight and they keep fighting
