The Armenian Genocide

Dr. Pipes,

The NYT did it again. This is the title:

"Biden Declares Mass Killings of Armenians a Genocide."

Well, a genocide is defined as: "the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group."

And indeed 1.3-1.5 million Armenians, babies women and old people included, were murdered in cold blood and let us not forget the murder of 700,000 Syriacs and 2 million Greeks

Then let us continue with what is a genocide and not included in the title of the article: " with the aim of destroying the nation or group."

And this is indeed what happened not just to the Armenians but to the Syriacs and the Greeks

1. They were forced to flee and in the case of the Armenians they fled to Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Israel/Palestine, Egypt, Russia, The US, Canada, France and Australia.

2. Many Armenian children and many young women were abducted by the Turks and converted to Islam

3. The historical heart of Armenia in places like Van was destroyed and their churches and monasteries vandalized and destroyed

Notice that the failed NYT only tells us that it was only "mass killing." No wonder the old legacy media is dying.

BTW: I only read the headline as I refuse to click any link to the failed NYT because this is how they make their money.

Why did the Turks commit these genocides? Because the Armenians, Syriacs and Greeks did not want to become Turks and they are Christian nations. If these atrocities were not about religion then why did the Turks not inflict the same atrocities on the Kurds?

The real question: It is shameful that our government took so long to admit the obvious that what happened to the Armenians, the Syriacs and the Greeks were Genocides

I wonder if recognizing the Armenian Genocide is taking place now because Turkey has no money left to give those that lobby on its behalf here in the US!

"My Grandmother: An Armenian Turkish Memoir" is a wonderful book by a female Turkish author who discovered that her grandmother is really Armenian and a victim of the Genocide. She lost her parents who were murdered by the Turks and she was abducted and married a Turk. Really heart breaking
