I have been asking these two questions to every Pakistani and Indian Muslim in this forum:
1. Why is polytheism bad?
2. Why is monotheism good?
And I never got an answer! May be you will have better luck
Now, check al-Tabari's tafsir of Q112:1. The pesky Jews and the smart pagans refuted Muhammad's so called Tawhid! Do not read it in translations. Use googletranslate or iphone translate app They are not the best but still better than the creepy translations in Islamic literary sources. It would for sure help if you are familiar with Aristotelian logic, Gnosis and Neoplatonism after all the Jews as well as the pagan Arabs must have been very familiar with the profound Greek logic. You might also be interested in reading the Gnostic "Gospel of Thomas" which is part of the Nag Hammadi's library. It would provide you with understanding of what gnosis is all about
Here is al-Tabari's tafsir and notice that Muhammad's response was to get angry and curse the Jews and the pagans and when this did not work, Muhammad invoked his god to punish them in his little hell. But the ultimate insult both groups left realizing that Muhammad and his god do not make sense. Was he able to tell them why is monotheism good and polytheism bad? Well, read and enjoy:
