The commandment says "Thou shalt not take the name of the lord thy G-D in vain". This means that we cannot use the Holy Name as an excuse to prosecute our own selfish agendas in the world. Sane and realisitc advice for anyone to follow.
It is the error of the imperialisitc mind that it seeks to legitimatize itself by wrapping itself in the cloak of sanctity. It is this imperialistic mind which has been from time immemorial a source of difficulty in our world. There are two kinds of men in the world. There are those who seek G-Ds wisdom and there are those who seek G-Ds power. Those who seek G-Ds wisdom are a blessing but those who seek G-Ds power are a curse. The power of G-D belongs to G-D alone and no man may claim it for himself. There is power in wisdom but there is no wisdom in power. Power, without the restraint of wisdom, is like the fire that has escaped the restraint of the hearth. It can burn the house down.
