Dear Dr Pipes:
In the entire western religious rhetoric, it is tacitly implied that pagans somehow were pathetic people who needed the monotheistic religions. I have nothing against monothiesm but I know that dead people do not come back to testify on their behalf. Who knows what will pagans write if they could write their own history?
Your reader Muhammad Nozzi from Singapore wrote a very long letter praising Muhammad in 2009. He also said he counted it as a virtue of Muhammad that he took Islam to pagans. I contend that Pagans were perfectly fine people who probably did not need Islam any more than any one of us needs it today. A tribe that gave birth to a successful business woman like Khadijah can hardly be too bad after all. Shouldn't everyone agree?
