Dear Dr Pipes, the reader AVCR quoted quran 33:40 for us. It says:
Surat Al-'Ahzab [verse 40] - Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah , of all things, Knowing.
It made no sense to me because muhammad not being the father of 'any of your men' seems irrelevant to the claim that he was the seal of all prophets.
As I always do, I set out to read the whole context. I started at 33:33 (7 verses prior). It was 33:37 that sent my head into a spin. In 33:37, beyond all reasons and out of context, Muhammad claims that he did a favor to the humanity by marrying the wife of his adopted son Zayd after 'Zayd had no use of her' and 'so we all can marry out adopted son's wives with no guilt' .
No thanks, Mr. Muhammad, sir, we have no desire or need to marry our son's wives. And, we do not consider women as chairs or tables or camels so they can be claimed by others after the need of them for the owner is over.
And, yes, around these verses muhammad or Allah also warns us that if Allah and muhammad decide something for us, we are not supposed to question it. I think Muhammad conjured up this warning so we never question his lustful decision to marry his daughter-in-law.
The sequence q33-40, carries absurd, irrelevant, and selfish information. I would request Muslims to read this sequence with all devotion and virtues. I hope they can find better meanings in these verses than I.
