Dear Dr Pipes: with no malice toward Islam, I pointed out its inadequacy: if it's primary book is so difficult to translate and understand, then it cannot be a guiding force for normal people. Many of our readers, including Jeff, endorsed my view. I feel very thankful.
The meaning of every verse of quran must be scrutinized. Either Muslims and non-Muslims must be allowed to interpret it and flexibly choose from it or we must be allowed to discard it as ambiguous and unapplicable. Muslims should not be allowed to hide behind the apology that the quran is simultaneously the biggest truth and understandable.
We need to be polite but blunt with Islam. What I am demanding here is already done to my religion.
We want to find commonality between Hinduism and other faiths and we never say that the ancient caste system (for example) is applicable in today's context (if it ever was!). Only the crazies among us say that caste system is good but hard to understand
Thank you, Jeff and others for support. And, thank you, Dr Pipes, for this forum.
