Dear Dr Pipes, Your reader Sani Ahmad has replayed the Islamic broken record. Sani Ahmad said that Jesus was not the son of God. Islamic obsession with ignoring the intended meaning and stubbornly harping on the literal meaning is at play here. I have never heard a Christian say that God came to planet earth as a man, slept with a woman, who gave birth to a child who become Jesus. That would be the literal meaning of Jesus being the son of God. That interpretation -if true- would cause even more consternation to Muslims because that will mean that not only Jesus was the son of God but also there was a man who lived on the earth and who was actually God!
So dear Muslims, divinity of Jesus is not to be taken literally. Jesus was divine because we attribute so much good to him. And, with so much good in him, he might be almost like the son of God. Even Muhammad could have been a son of God, if he had done more good karmas and had not spent his life fighting wars. For heaven's sake!
Your commiment to rigidity, dear Muslims, make me queasy deep in my stomach and deep in my soul. Be humble, be nice, be flexible, be kind, and bring divinity to all around you. It is as simple as that.
