Nozzi, the title to your post says: 'QURAN 4:90 SUPERSEDES QURAN 9:5, 9:29 AS WELL AS 9:111'
Maududi places these verses (Surah 4) thus: "This Surah comprises several discourses which were revealed on different occasions during the period ranging probably between the end of A.H. 3 and the end of A.H. 4 or the beginning of A.H. 5. Although it is difficult to determine the exact dates of their revelations, yet it is possible to assign to them a fairly correct period…..
About Surah 9, he has this to say: "The first discourse (vv. 1-37), was revealed in Zil-Qa'adah A.H. 9 or thereabout….
The third discourse (vv. 73-129) was revealed on his return from the Campaign of Tabuk.."
William Montgomery Watt the great scholar of Islam in his Companion to the Quran says about the period of these verses:
An-nisa (Surah 4) 'Much of this sura appears to have been revealed between the battle of Uhud and the siege of Medina, but some passages, especially those referring to the Jews, are probably before Uhud. (page 61)
At-tawba (Surah 9): 'This sura deals with various matters connected with je break with the idolators (about March 631)'
This proves without doubt that 4:90 does not supersede verses 9:5, 9:29 and 9:111 as earlier ones obviously cannot replace later ones. The killing and fighting verses supersede 4:90.
>>Your arguments are still turning round and round within the cycle of Quran 9:5, 9:29 as well as 9:111. However, you have to consider Quran 4:90 too.<<
Yes let us consider 4:90. Below is your take on the verse:
Quran 4:90, "...So if they withdraw from you, and fight not against you, and offer you peace, then Allah has opened no way for you against them". The phrase, fight not against you, in Quran 4:90 implies that non-muslims do not fight or refuse to fight with us, muslims. The phrase, Allah has opened no way for you against them, in Quran 4:90 implies that Allah wants us to cease in fighting with them, non-muslims. As the phrase, if they writdraw from you, is mentioned in Quran 4:90 with the phrase, Allah has opened no way for you against them, it implies that Allah commands muslims not to fight against non-muslims if non-muslims do not or refuse to fight with us, muslims. As non-muslims in Singapore refuse to fight with us, why should we, muslims, disobey Quran 4:90 to fight then.
Nozzi, you are becoming an expert at hiding the words of the Koran. You did it with 5:32 where you hid the first part of Allah's words which tells us that the verse is meant only for the Jews. Let me show you that you have done something similar with 4:90 and you have also hidden the context of this verse by not quoting the previous two ayas. Muslims accuse the Jews and Christians of hiding portions of Allah's revelation. You are committing the same crime with the Koran! Here is 4:90 in full and the relevant previous two:
004.088 YUSUFALI: Why should ye be divided into two parties about the Hypocrites? Allah hath upset them for their (evil) deeds. Would ye guide those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way? For those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way, never shalt thou find the Way.
004.089 YUSUFALI: They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks;-
004.090 YUSUFALI: Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty (of peace), or those who approach you with hearts restraining them from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. If Allah had pleased, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you: Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them).
Allah is asking Muslims to be united about the hypocrites (4:88). In 4:89 Allah the merciful tells Muslims to take friends from among them only if they become Muslims (flee in the way of Allah). But then He shows His cruel and vindictive nature by ordering Muslims to kill any of them who reject Allah after becoming Muslims.
In 4:90 Allah allows Muslims to befriend only the hypocrites who join a party with whom they have a treaty or those who are reluctant to fight Muslims or their own people. Then by saying if He had pleased He could have made them fight the Muslims Allah is revealing that He is the puppeteer who has everybody, Muslims, Hypocrites, pagans all dangling from his strings and dancing and twitching to his tugs on the strings.
Nozzi, this verse should make you realize that you are a Muslim because Allah willed it, not because you wish it. Your neighbours are unclean Buddhists, Hindus or Christians because Allah wants them to be unbelievers and not because they wish to be unclean unbelievers.
Read the last two sentences of 4:90 once more. 'If Allah had pleased, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you: Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them).'
They show what a confused being Allah is. If the hypocrites don't fight you but send you a peace message it is because that is Allah's will (as the first sentence makes clear). Where is the need for Allah to then to instruct the Muslims not to fight them (unless Allah wills Muslims to fight them despite the hypocrites peace overtures made by them because Allah wills them to). Confusing is it not, Nozzi? Just typical for Allah and His Koran.
