When the angel, Gabriel, gave the inspiration to Muhammad, he was not paid to preach to the surrounding pagans. If Muhammad was such a selfish person, he would not preach to the pagans without getting his salary. As Muhammad was not paid to preach to the pagans, this implies that he is not selfish to keep to himself the message of Allah.
